In October of 1998, Allen Grell approached me and wanted me to build him an engine to install in his old 1973 Super Beetle (single owner).  I had never built an engine so we got a good rebuilt one from CRAM Foreign Auto in Omaha, NE.  I didn't have much time to take pictures of this entire project but I have 2 good ones I can share with you.

This is the finished engine - painted and installed in Allen's 73 SB.
Notice the tag that says, "No Oil."  This engine hadn't even been
fired up yet when I took this picture.

And here is Li'l Red (74 Super Beetle up front) towing Allen's 73 Super Beetle.  I towed this bug about 5 miles to the local VW guru so he could help me get it fired up and running properly.  I didn't want to leave ANYTHING to chance.  It's hard to see, but there is a taught chain between both cars.  It kind of follows the curb/street line.  I had the chain wrapped around the ball on my trailer hitch and the the other end wrapped around the frame head on the 73.  Starting from a dead stop was tricky if not downright hard but once we got going, Li'l Red towed it just fine.
